Essay
This is an essay that I wrote for my English 20 course.I had to write about an event that changed my life.
On Thursday evening July 1, 1999, I receieved the Holy Spirit. Needless to say, this particular event utterly changed my life in a way that nothing else could. Thankfully, this change was for the better.
The Holy Spirit is the divine Spirit of God which is evidenced by speaking in other tounges and is poured out on those who repent of their sins and ask God for His Spirit. The joy and utter ecstasy which accompany the Holy Spirit were so amazing that I find it hard to explain. It was a feeling that no earthly thing could provide. I guess you could say that it was divine.
After receiving the Holy Spirit, I was baptized. Receiving the Holy Spirit and being baptized are two key elements of salvation, as stated in Acts 2:38 of the Holy Bible. In the Bible, baptism is described as a washing away of one's sins. This was the exact feeling that came over me. I felt cleansed, as if years of grime and dirt had been washed away in one brilliant stroke!
Following my in-filling of the Holy Spirit and my baptism, I felt as if I were a new person and indeed, in a sense, I was! This event changed my way of thinking. I no longer wanted to live life my way, but instead it helped me to follow God's direction. From that day, July 1, 1999, my life has dramatically changed!
